Your Face Here!

For our first content incubator weekend, we were split into teams and had to respond back to specific real world briefs. Our proposal involved the idea of giving people the ability to upload their own faces into a video scenario.

There’s some really entertaining examples of this concept using different technologies but with the same novelty of seeing yourself either as a character or as part of a scene.

The Eco Dance

A strange hooded man performs his own unique dance, at the end of which he removes his face! – bizarrely it’s all related to some organic eggs….but the cool part of it is that you can upload your own face and watch your creation dance away. The results are funny but freaky.

The Lost Valentinos

Sydney based band produces an innovative augmented reality project, this is a really cute idea – how many fans would love to have a hologram of their fave lead singer ;-)

What to do when your blog is hacked!

I recently had the experience of logging in to my WordPress blog and finding a corrupted dashboard in version 2.8 for no apparent reason. After some digging around, I realised that either something had ‘broken’ my installation or someone had broken in.

Although I have been blogging for a little while now, I never worried about the security of my set up (yes, naive I know!) – with much finger crossing and silent prayers, I backed up my database and upgraded and luckily it all worked.

I found the following tips in terms of securing WordPress really useful especially with the suggested plugins. It’s always difficult to keep up with how to protect your work effectively but these links provide some good starting points.

Frida Kahlo milinery for a Sydney winter perhaps

Check out the beautiful floral milinery by Ann Marie Faulkner, a textile designer and creative based in East London in collaboration with florist Fiona Burke.  They wanted to create a different collection for an already over saturated Bridal market and produced a range of headpieces using a combination of fine silks, laces, tulles and fresh flowers.

I particularly loved the delicate Frida Kahlo-esque piece with red autumnal blooms.

Interface of the future? 576 cubes hooked up to 20,000 live feeds

I would love one of these 7 foot screens! Intel shows off it’s new i7 processor (the entire system runs off only one processor!). Particularly like the way they have abstracted information using cubes on the touchscreen. It would be great to be able to stack and arrange the cubes, perhaps the touchscreen could double as a TV too :-)
